HOATZIN

SUCUMBÍOS, ECUADOR

Taking its last drink before day’s end, a Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin) dips down to the surface on an oxbow lake, deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The tranquility of this photo belies the very real danger this bird faces each time it descends to the domain of predatory caimans.
